Effect of plant spacing on the growth and quality of Kinnow under Sargodha climatic conditions.

Field studies were conducted in Sargodha, Pakistan, from 2002 to 2004, to determine the effect of different plant spacings, i.e. 7x7, 7x3.5 and 3.5x3.5 m, on the growth, yield and physicochemical characteristics of kinnow mandarin (Citrus reticulata). In 2002, plant height was maximum (3.35 m) in close spacing while in 2004, it was highest (4.0 m) in the widest spacing. Spacing had no effect on plant spread and fruit length. Stem girth was maximum (42.17 and 46.48 cm, respectively) in 2003 and 2004 in 7x7 m spacing. Similarly, highest fruit weight of 120.25, 136.0 and 155.5 g, number of fruits per tree (376, 576 and 473), juice (42.25, 40.0, 43.0%), TSS (12.5, 11.95, 13.9%) TSS:acidity ratio (15.62, 16.14 and 20.14) and low acidity (0.8, 0.74 and 0.69%) was observed in 7.0x7.0 m spacing in 2002-2004 and minimum values of these traits were recorded in close spacing..
