Twenty-one walnut cultivars (from MS-1 to MS-21) from high chilling areas in Mardan, Pakistan were evaluated for performance in low chilling environment during 2003 and 2004. Eight parameters were tested: height, spread, stem diameter, yield, nut weight, nut diameter, kernel percentage and shell thickness. Maximum height of 22 m was obtained from MS-18, followed by 21.67 m in MS-21. Plant spread was highest (256.7 m2) in MS-6. Stem diameter was maximum (2.13 m) in MS-21. Maximum yield, nut weight and nut diameter (63.3 kg, 14.8 g and 6.75 cm) were obtained from MS-1, MS-14 and MS-18, respectively. Kernel percentage was highest (58.21 and 56.67%) in MS-12 and MS-9, respectively. Paper-thin shells were observed in MS-17, and thin shells were observed in MS-9.
