ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY ENGINEER NAMED FEDERAL ENGINEER OF THE YEAR

Alexandria, VA-Rao Y. Surampalli, Ph.D., P.E., DE.E., senior professional engineer and technical advisor, United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA), Kansas City, KS, and a captain in the United States Public Health Service, has been named the Federal Engineer of the Year by the National Society of Professional Engineers (APE) for his exemplary professional work and volunteer activities. Sponsored by NSPE's practice division Professional Engineers in Government, the Federal Engineer of the Year Award program recognizes outstanding engineers employed in the federal government.Considered an international expert in environmental engineering, Surampalli has lent his expertise to several foreign countries, at their requests, including Taiwan and Nepal. During the last two years, Surampalli has also traveled to Kazakhstan, Panama, and India as a volunteer for the International Executive Service Corps where his volunteer technical assistance resulted in significant environmental improvements.
