MSHA issues final rule on diesel particulate matter

The U.S.Mine Safely and Health Administration June 6 issued a final rule strengthening protections for miners exposed to diesel particulate matter from diesel exhaust in underground metal and non-metal mines.By changing the unit of measure for DPM exposure to a more accurate one,MSHA said the rule allows the agency to enforce protections more effectively for exposed miners.The rule revises the interim DPM concentration limit measured in total carbon to a comparable,but more accurate,permissible exposure limit measured in elemental carbon.
