RESEARCHERS BELIEVE that essential oils can help take the place of growth-promoting antibiotiics - but they're having trouble making them work where they need to in the pig's gut. Dr. Joshua Gong, of Agriculture and Agri -food Canada says they evaluated 66essential oils and found 15 oils which showed 80 per cent inhibition of the bacteria they esamined including Salmonella and the concerning E. colis O157:H7 and K88.
