Effects of Artemisia sieberi and terbinafine onMicrosporum canis on guinea pigs

Effects ofArtemisia sieberi essence or Terbinafine 1% cream on experimental dermatophytosis causedby Microsporum canis in guinea pigs are described. Groups of 6 guinea pigs each weretreated after day 5 of infection every 12 hours for 40 days with Terbinafine 1% cream or A.sieberi nano-essence. Controls were non-treated infected and non-infected saline guineapigs. Animals were evaluated clinically and laboratory tests recorded in SPSS. Clinical scoresin guinea pigs given nano-essence at 5, 12 and 19d were undistinguishable from those giventerbinafine but from day 26 to 40 were significantly less in those treated with nano-essence.Microsporum canis cultures were negative at 33, 40 and 50d in treated and negativecontrols. Results suggested that Artemisia sieberi essence may improve treatment ofTrichophyton Microsporum canis.
