Rhodium-catalyzed intramolecular conjugate addition of vinylstannanes to 2,3-dihydro-4-pyridones. An efficient route to stereoselective construction of indolizidines

[RhCl(cod)](2) is an effective catalyst for the intramolecular conjugate addition of vinylstannanes to 2,3-dihydro-4-pyridones under neutral conditions at room temperature. The reaction occurs in good yields, giving indolizidine skeletons with excellent diastereoselectivity. A stereochemical outcome observed in these cyclizations is proposed.
