High Tops: Drape a wall with vining crops

We're all familiar with the concept of vertical gardening: training plants to grow upward to maximize cropping area. But what if you can't fix supports to a wall? Think curtains and allow climbing crops to hang down in verdant swags of foliage, flower, and fruit. Jonathan Wright, a gardener at Chanticleer, a public garden in Wayne, Pennsylvania, did just that and positioned generously sized windowboxes along the top of a wall. In this elevated garden, he planted a variety of trailing, twining edibles, including melons, cucumbers, beans, and flowers. Cabbages and kales were included to give the scheme more height and to be the crowning glory of the luxuriant hanging garden.
