OVER THE YEARS GROWING ORCHIDS has become more accessible for hobbyists through the development of new varieties with characteristics that make growing orchids in a home environment not only easier, but more economical. Down-sizing plant growth habitis an area of orchid genetic improvement that has impacted a number of genera resulting in the ability of growers to make more efficient use of their available space to grow more orchids. Nowhere is downsizing more evident than within the Cattleya and Cymbidium Alliances. In fact within most genera of orchids, one may find both large and small growing species.
