Taking a lead from the Christchurch-based people involved with this supply chain, it appears that life is starting to settle back to somewhat "normal" for those in Christchurch, with news of relief centres reporting that the public are getting back ontheir feet and putting their lives back together. And as a result of this, the need for fresh fruit and vegetables by way of relief has reduced. While the first three weeks following February 22 had been hell for Christchurch, the horticultural industryplayed a part in helping those in need by collecting, transporting and distributing fresh fruit, vegetables and other goods. These included fresh apples and pears, various cultivars of fresh vegetables, an extensive range of summer fruit, eggs and eventhree tonnes of ready-to-eat seafood chowder.
