Hidden Jewel: The Ghost Orchid in the Deep, Dark Swamps of Florida

GHOST ORCHID. THE NAME CONJURES up a vision of something white floating in the wind. Actually, that is exactly what you see if you are lucky enough to find a plant flowering in the middle of the wild, deep, dark swamps of South Florida. The flower looks like a white frog leaping off the side of a tree. It is one of the North American flagship species of the Orchid Specialist Group. This international conservation organization is using the species to highlight the potential risk to the future safety of wild orchids in the United States.
