WHEN I SAID, "PIECE OF CAKE, I'LL do that," I had no idea how little I knew. The subject of this article seemed a good idea. We want to welcome new members into our societies; we want our local communities to support our orchid shows; we want the world to know about our wonderful plants; and so on. Now the catch: how many specific examples did I have when preparing this story? Not many, so I scanned two months' worth of orchid-society newsletters that came into the AOS offices in Delray Beach, Florida. A year's sampling would have been better, but I found a few things that your society might want to consider.
