Threshold reduction of a nanosecond, narrowband beta -barium berate optical parametric oscillator by injection of amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) from a dye laser is described. The BBO-OPO uses a grazing-incidence-grating cavity and pumped at 355 nm by a single-mode Nd:YAG laser. A threshold reduction of 33% has been achieved over a tuning range of 20 nm using this technique. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved. [References: 9]
