Despite some 115 sour gas wells operating within five kilometres of Calgary's city limits-with some directly within city limits-new sour gas wells in proximity to urban areas are a hard sell.Last year,after months of drama that unfolded in the local media,Compton Petroleum bailed on its plans to drill for sour gas just south of Calgary's city limits.But a few months later,seemingly undeterred,Nexen Inc.engaged in public consultations over its plans for a new multi-well drilling program just north of the city.After a couple of open houses in October and November,Nexen filed a series of applications last December with the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board seeking approval to drill 15 sour gas wells from three existing sites and one new site and to install associated infrastructure.
