According to the American Pet Products Association, there are =73 million U.S. households that contain at least one pet. The pet food industry must continually innovate to meet the ever-changing demands of consumers. Due to the success of the pet food industry in meeting consumer demands, the industry has experienced constant growth over the past 10 years. It is estimated that annual pet food sales will grow to $21.26 billion in the United States in 2013 (1).
