Norway Lowers its Oil Resource Estimate For Waters Surrounding Arctic Archipelago

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has reduced its reserve estimates for unexplored areas along the country’s scenic Arctic offshore by around 200 million barrels of oil equivalent to roughly 1.3 billion boe. The NPD report, published Friday, follows three years of extensive seismic studies around the pristine Lofoten-Vesteralen-Senja archipelago in the Norwegian Sea, which will remain closed to oil and gas drilling at least until after the next general election in 2013.
