A South Korean naval destroyer has caught up with an oil tanker hijacked by Somali pirates, the Korean foreign ministry said Tuesday. The ministry said the destroyer would track the tanker from a safe distance. The Marshall Islands-registered Samho Dream, owned by Korea’s Samho Shipping, was on its way from Iraq to the US laden with Basrah Light for a refinery in Louisiana owned by US independent Valero Energy. Valero has said it will replace the crude with oil bought on the open market.
