The Montney tight gas play straddling the Alberta and B.C. border has seen explosive growth, with production climbing from 500 mmcf/d in 2009 to an average 2.5 bcf/d in 2014. But with natural gas and liquids prices in retreat throughout the last half of 2015 and in early 2016, capital expenditures are expected to decline. Pure Montney player Seven Generations Energy announced in early January it was cutting about $200 million of previously planned capital investment in 2016.
