A world of difference

It's a shopworn phrase to be sure, but for Oilweek's Top 100 production and reserves rankings, what a difference a year does make. A year ago, we were still talking up natural gas (the shale gale was roaring across North America) as the big story of 2010 in both production and reserves growth. Today, 12 months later, natural gas is the pariah of the industry and all tongues are wagging about the liquids tsunami that is sweeping across the continent and threatening to make the United States a net crude oil exporter in the next few years.
