Recyclization of 5-arylfuran-2,3-diones under the action of ethyl cyanoacetate or of malonic acid dinitrile resulting in the corresponding esters or nitriles of 2-amino-5-(2-aryl-2-oxoethylidene)-4-oxo-1H-4,5-dihydrofuran-3-carboxylic acids was investigated.
