The problems of burning up, cooling and purification of the gases from the smelting works of non-ferrous metals

The gases and dusts which originate duringpyrometallurgical processing of Polish copper concentrates haveespecially unprofitable properties, considering their purificationprocess. It is due to a remarkable content of bituminous coal inthose concentrates. The gases contain large quantities of pitchycompounds, which have a very wide range of condensationtemperatures (100÷400 deg C), and vapours of volatile metal-compounds (inc, lead, arsenic). The scrubbing of such gases carriesabout impediments, like deposition of salts on the installation-walls, origination of froth and emission of water-solved toxicgases from the surfaces of the settling tanks to the atmosphere. Thesearch for dry dedusting methods is advisable. The installations forburning up of gases should be provided with reheating burners andwith efficient adjustment of the quantity of the air for combustion.The vertical burning-up. combustion chambers are preferred,considering the possibility of limitation of bears and easy gettingdown the sows. The gas coolers can be applied for temperaturesbelow 500 deg C and should be equipped with efficient flicking-off systems.
