The positive effect of sewage sludge and coal waste was established in a long-term field experiment (32 years) in Russia. The treatments comprise: (1) control, without fertilizers; (2) N60P60K60, background; (3) background + 40 tonnes sewage sludge (SS)/ha; (4) background + 60 tonnes manure/ha; (5) background + 40 tonnes SS/ha; (6) background + 40 tonnes SS/ha; (7) background 60 tonnes SS/ha; (8) background + 6 tonnes coal waste/ha; and (9) background + 60 tonnes SS/ha + 6 tonnes coal waste/ha. Crops under rotation include winter rye, spring wheat, clover, barley and oats. The application of industrial waste made it possible to increase crop yield and improve sod-podzolic soil fertility. The long application of organic and mineral fertilizers substantially changed the agrochemical indices of soil. The systematic application of mineral fertilizers to cereal crops increased rotation productivity compared to the control. The results indicate that under conditions of shortage of organic and mineral fertilizers, SS and coal wastes can be used as a full-value organic fertilizer since they are not inferior to manure in effectiveness.Notes translated from Doklady Rossiiskoi Akademii Sel'skokhozyaistvennykh Nauk (2010) No. 4, 33-35 (Ru)
