To study the inheritance of powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca mors-uvae [Podosphaera mors-uvae]) resistance, artificial infection of black currant seedlings was carried out. Segregation for powdery mildew resistance using various combinations of oligogenes Sph3, R and Sph2 was conducted. In the case of combining genes R and Sph3, the digenic control of powdery mildew resistance was observed in the hybrid progenies. In most cross combinations, phenotype segregation corresponded to 3:1, indicating that a higher number of resistant plants was observed in many combinations. For selecting donors combining homozygous dominant alleles of genes R and Sph3, self-pollination was conducted with a number of donors. The analysis of segregation in hybrid progenies of blood currant derivatives identified two donors, i.e. 3017-4-9, the progeny of which resulted in genotypes that were not susceptible to powdery mildew, and 3190-44-72, the progeny of which produced 75% resistant plants.
