Russian Aluminum, one of the world's top-three aluminum producers, met with reporters on January 30 for the first time since the official announcement of a deal to form a new world leader in the aluminum industry by merging Rusal, Sual and the alumina assets of Glencore. Alexander Bulygin, the Russian aluminum giant's CEO, said during a conference call that 2006 was an important year for Rusal, marked by three key events. "I think that we are participating in the best project there is in Russia at the moment - BEMO," Bulygin said, referring to the Boguchany Energy & Metallurgical Association project to build the Boguchany hydropower station and aluminum smelter.
