Delving into the large municipal collection held in store in the museums and galleries of Ipswich, Suffolk, resulted in a superb exhibition of the work of ceramist Blanche Georgiana Vulliamy earlier this year The show spelt the rehabilitation of a forgotten talent, who will now be represented by a smaller display in the permanent galleries of items from the personal collection bequeathed by the artist.Vulliamy was born in Ipswich in 1869, one of thirteen children of a solicitor and his Belgian artist wife. After a short illness she died of Paget's disease in 1923, at Chesham, Buckinghamshire. During her comparatively brief life, she designed some of the most mesmerically grotesque and bizarre ceramics imaginable.
