Ukraine's prosecutor general is seeking via the courts to reinstate government ownership of 68.01 percent of the shares in Zaporizhiya Aluminum Combine (ZALK), which is controlled by Russia's United Company RUSAL (UC RUSAL). A spokesperson for the prosecutor said on Monday that the relevant lawsuit had been filed. The prosecutor's office investigated whether the buyer of the shares had honored its commitments and established that Russia's CJSC Avtovaz-Invest, the owner of the shares that were subsequently acquired by UC RUSAL, and a Cyprus-registered company had not honored a commitment to refinance a long-term liability of ZALK to settle a loan of more than 75 million dollars.
