GEOFFREY EASTOP: 'THE HOLLOW DIMENSION'/BERKELEY SQUARE GALLERY, LONDON

Meeting with Geoffrey Eastop at the Berkeley Square Gallery he talks passionately about his rich and varied career in ceramics, how the different events in his life have informed his work, created new opportunities, prompted changes in direction and defined his ambitions. As a student in the seventies I was aware of his stoneware pots, assemblages from thrown cylinders and spheres, and later of his large earthenware platters richly glazed in vibrant colours, the results of a rewarding collaboration with John Piper. I was impressed by his craft skills as a potter and his abilities as a painter. This breadth of interest is synonymous with Eastop's work and in this exhibition he tackles what for him has become a nagging issue, recognising the 'point of crossover which distinguishes the difference between art and craft'.
