Ceramic artist Rowena Brown has attention to detail in her DNA: her father carved all the family furniture - including a dolls' house that was a complete facsimile of the family home, right down to the handmade wallpaper for each miniature room - and her mother made the children's clothes. Rowena constructed tiny felt garments for her dolls and later, aged eleven, she began making clothes for herself. 'We were always making,' she says. 'I think that back in those days people did make a lot more.'
