NEW PRODUCTS AT ALUMINA MILLS OF THE URALS

In view of the reduced competitiveness of domestic alumina plants because of the use of obsolescent and outdated equipment at these mills, the low grade of the treated ore, and the difficulties associated with extraction of the ore, particular attention must be devoted to the production of by-products. The experience gained by foreign alumina plants demonstrates that partial or complete modernization of production facilities for manufacturing output intended for the chemical industry will make it possible to adapt older enterprises and enterprises which, for different reasons, have been deprived of deliveries of raw materials. Moreover, in view of the growing demands of the chemical, petrochemical, gas processing, construction, and other branches of industry, the production of nonmetallurgical output at alumina mills has become highly profitable.
