HOME MADE HOLLAND/CRAFTS COUNCIL, LONDON

Accompanying the exhibition Home Made Holland, the one day conference included talks by exhibitors in the show, the exhibition curator and the Dutch designer/maker Tord Boontje, who works in London, all admirably chaired by Kate McIntyre. Art historian and critic Marjan Unger opened with an introduction to the long history of Dutch inferiors as represented in painting, and a selection of work by modern designers that took into account social and environmental and aesthetic concerns. Like other speakers, the issue of function and use was not discussed directly, but was an underlying theme.
