Heating of titanium ingots in gas furnaces before molding is a complex heat-engineering problem, as it requires both high temperatures, and homogeneity of the temperature field both at the surface and in the bulk of the ingots. At the Verkhnesaldinskii metallurgical complex (VSMPO), ingots made from several titanium alloys are heated in furnaces with sliding bottoms. The furnaces, designed by VNIPI TEPLOPROEKT, operate on natural gas.
