Influence of different factors on the final composition of cakes in decomposition of tungsten-containing organometallic mixtures

Anomalous phenomena occurring in carbidizing treatment of tungsten discovered for with increased rate of mixing of the starting elements (produced in the dissociation of organometallic compounds and following preliminary activation of carbon-tungsten charges) are considered. It is shown that the formation of the lower carbide WC_((1-x)) and the active phase WC_((0.01)) accompanying it exerts an influence on the process of carbidizing treatment. In light of this phenomenon a mechanism of carbidizing treatment of tungsten is proposed. Its similarity to processes that occur in cooling of a carbon-tungsten melt and represented in the corresponding binary state diagram is noted.
