As a ceramic tile maker I have produced many community murals. This Millennium Mural, nine metres long, five metres high, situated on the external wall of Wrexham's Library and Arts Centre, has been particularly challenging. I was chosen by eight schools to design the commission based on Wrexham Past and Present' and to work with their 1200 children aged three to 11 (each making a tile).Undergoing regeneration, Wrexham is an ancient town with a rich industrial heritage, set in a flat rural landscape with a dramatic back-drop of the Welsh hills and mountains. The chosen design, reached through consultation, needed to reflect this with strong images to be seen from afar and to show the detail of the children's work.
