Reformatsky reagents prepared from methyl 1-bromocycloalkanoates and zinc react with azo-methines or azines to give 2,3-diaryl-2-azaspiro[3.5]nonan-l-ones,2,3-diaryl-2-azaspiro[3.4]octan-l-ones or 2,2'-bis(3-aryl-l-oxo-2-azaspiro[3.5]nonanes),respectively.
