The specific feactures of hydrogen bonding in solid 2-cyanoacrylic and 2-cyano-2E,4-pentadienoic acids was studied by IR and Raman spectroscopy taking into account also X-ray diffraction data. Methyl 2-cyano-2E,4-pentadienoate forms Hobnds with trifluoroacetic acid in chloroform via both nitrile jitrogen and carbonyl oxygen.
