September 2009 marked the opening of a new art department at Cranleigh School in Surrey, comprising painting, printing, textiles, sculpture, ceramics, and glass studios. Refurbishment of the design studios commenced in July 2010. The facilities can be described only as second to none in art education. At a time when resources are limited by restricted finances and many departments are closing, it is a privilege to be part of such a development. Sixth Form students at Cranleigh are some of the first to embrace the new Pre-University art course rather than A-level. This course has defined a new way of teaching, where exploration, experimentation, and development of ideas are rewarded without examination during the first year, which allows far more time for teaching and learning.
