Published data on oxidation of dihydropyridines and on the mechanisms and the role of hydride shifts in bioorganic chemistry,enantioselective synthesis and supramolecular chemistry are generalised.The bibliography includes 218 references.Almost two hundred years ago,the German chemist Schorlemmer defined organic chemistry as the chemistry of hydrocarbons and their derivatives,from which it follows that the nature of C-H bonds and the conditions of their formation and cleavage are important subjects of chemical investigation.
