It is the hypnotic qualities of the patterns on Michael Wisner's pots that capture your attention. Regular. Repeated. Predictable. Right. A simple mark (a triangle, a curve, a chevron) repeats in perfect rhythm, creating another more complex design as it moves over the pot. The patterns tug at your focus, grip you tightly and do not let you go until you finally 'walk away from the moment.. .feeling recharged/refreshed and sometimes inspired.' Wisner uses these words to describe the times in nature 'when you see an object that stops you and monopolises your senses'. For Wisner these objects tend to be seed pods, tree bark, leaves and other objects with growth-related textures. Some of the pots shown in the Beaux Arts exhibition are newly inspired by the tropical vegetation he encountered while on a working trip to Hawaii.
