Skilled rubber tappers are a vanishing lot, especially in India. The dearth of good tappers has turned out to be a grave problem. Now many among the piece-rated tappers are quite unskilled and inexperienced and there have been instances of their damaging the rubber trees thro-ugh faulty tapping operations.
