In this paper, the Automated Grid Method is applied to the uniaxial tension test of tire rubber compounds under moderate finite deformation. The test precision is improved, and the strains along axial and transversal directions are obtained Simultaneously, so that compressibility of the rubber compounds can be studied directly. Based on the Eight-Chain model, and inspired with the physical idea of Van der Waals model, we put forward a modified Eight-Chain model, and generalize it into compressibility. All of the model parameters can be determined with the data obtained merely in uniaxial tension test with the Automated Grid Method, without the dependence on the data of any other test form. Fitted results show that modified Eight-Chain model can better characterize the hyperelastic mechanical behavior of incompressible and compressible rubber compounds under moderate finite deformation.
