The response of panels, consisting of semi- rigidly connectedsteel beams and columns with infilled shear panels, to lateral forceswas evaluated using limit analysis. Thereafter a study was made ofdesign methods, in order to incorporate such concepts in designexamples. As a wide variety of connection types are used in practice,it is impractical to utilize the precise properties of individualconnections. Therefore, a scheme is developed whereby connections areclassified in terms of their strength and stiffness usingmoment-rotation data. The results from an investigation into theinfluence of these joints on the behaviour of structural panels arepresented.
