摘要

For one small city in northeastern British Columbia, there is an upside and a downside to the increasing shale gas drilling activity in the area. Dawson Creek has always been known as a quiet city, surrounded by ranches and farms. Until, that is, the Second World War, when it experienced its first boom. That was when the Canadian and U.S. governments chose it to be the starting point for the 2,200-kilometre Alaska Highway, which would transport goods and military personnel through Canada to Alaska.
