RARE EARTHS: JAPANESE IMPORT PRICES DROP BY 17-37% IN 2015

Chinese exports of rare earths rose sharply in 2015, increasing by 26% to 34,832t (Table 1). Growth was attributed to the slowdown in domestic demand, surplus Chinese capacity throughout the rare earths supply chain, and the abolition of Chinese export licences at the beginning of 2015 and of export taxes in May. The 20-30% fall in rare earths prices meant the value of Chinese exports remained stable at US$372 Min 2015.
