The interesting afterlife of Iznik ceramics

By the late 16th century, the colourful Iznik ceramics from the Ottoman Empire had acquired a justly lustrous reputation far beyond the Ottoman borders. They were provided with costly mounts of gold and. silver by European craftsmen; they were taken far and wide on the routes of international commerce; and they were subject to the most sincere form of flattery in the form of imitations, produced in several locations, but with Italian examples to the fore.
