This past September I spent four weeks as a resident artist at the Guldagergaard International Ceramics Research Centre in Skaelskor, Denmark. The residency concept creates an opportunity for ceramists to enter a community atmosphere and work in a rejuvenating setting among like-minded professional artists. The concept of getting out of your comfort zone by physically spending time in another atmosphere has long been proven to be a successful way to promote creativity. Artists from the world over bring new and exciting viewpoints that challenge one to thoroughly evaluate one's ideas, philosophies, and goals. Through much discussion, analysis, and criticism, I now have a greater appreciation of more diverse ideas of artistic expression.
