Improvement of billet casting productivity through the development of a high casting speed mould

Technologies permitting high speed billet casting are presented: new HS-mould type, high pressurized water spraying of the mould, improved water cooling of the roller apron. The design and the performance of the HS-mould are shown: uniform shell, stable casting at all speeds, good billet quality. A 16 % productivity increase is reported.
