Statistics of Petroleum Exploration in the World Outside the United States and Canada Through 2001

It has been nearly 15 years since the US Geological Survey last updated its information on petroleum exploration activity outside the United States and Canada. During this timeframe, the petroleum industry has expanded exploration activities in many areas of the world in response to heightened demand for energy resources. Attanasi, Freeman, and Glovier provide a thorough, up-to-date presentation and analysis of exploration data that were available through 2001. The official publication, known as US Geological Survey Circular 1288, updates similar US Geological Survey circulars over the last 20 years (Root and others, 1987; Attanasi and Root, 1993).
