Methods for Synthesis of [~(18)F]Fluoromisonidazole, a Radiopharmaceutical for Imaging of Hypoxic Foci

Methodological approaches in the field of the synthesis of [~(18)F]fluoromisonidazole radiopharmaceutical, a biomarker for imaging hypoxic foci by positron emission tomography, are analyzed on the basis of data published in the past three decades. Various methods for introducing the radioactive tracer into the substance and the accessibility of these methods and their suitability for the synthesis and clinical use of the radiopharmaceutical are discussed.
