WHEN THE bright green flag, with its distinctive bars of red, black and orange under a soaring eagle was raised over the independent nation of Zambia on October 24, 1964, the country roared in celebration. "One Zambia. One Nation" was. and still is, the country's slogan 50 years after President Kenneth Kaunda became the post-independence leader of the landlocked southern African nation.
