A field experiment was conducted in Anand, Gujarat, India, during the rabi seasons of 2003-04 and 2004-05 on a loamy sand soil. There were 24 treatment combinations involving 2 onion cultivars (Local White and Agrifound Light Red) and 12 integrated N levels (inorganic N at 35, 60, 75 or 100 t/ha, farmyard manure (FYM) at 10 or 20 t/ha, poultry manure (PM) at 2 or 4 t/ha and biofertilizers (BF) at 2.5 kg/ha). The yield of onion bulb after harvesting was found significant. Local White had significantly higher yield of bulb, i. e. 58.03, 55.25 and 56.64 t/ha during 2003-04, 2004-05 and on pooled basis, respectively, compared to Agrifound Light Red, i.e. 52.43, 49.77 and 51.10 t/ha, respectively. The bulb yield was found significantly higher in 100 kg N+20 t FYM/ha, i. e. 66.71, 65.23 and 65.97 t/ha during 2003-04, 2004-05 and on pooled basis, respectively, compared to the rest of the integrated levels of N, except for treatments 100 kg N+4 t PM/ha, 100 kg N+10 t FYM+2.5 kg BF/ha and 100 kg N+2 t PM+2.5 kg BF/ha. The total soluble solids, S and N contents in onion bulb were found significantly higher in treatment 100 kg N+20 t FYM/ha during both years and in pooled analysis compared to the rest of the treatments, except for treatments 100 kg N+4 t PM/ha, 100 kg N+10 t FYM+2.5 kg BF/ha and 100 kg N+2 t PM+2.5 kg BF/ha.
